Date: 05/04/2003
Trade: Chicago gets: Dallas's
19th, 21st, and 34th-40th picks
Dallas
gets: Robert Shvela
Thoughts on the deal: I made this deal because Shevla is an older defenceman. This deal was done for the future of the club. The 19th pick
turned into my brightest young forward, Tuomo Ruutu. The 21st picked turned in Dam Hamhuis, one of my brightest young
defenceman. Some of the later 6 picks were packaged in a future deal. Some mid 20th rounders we brought back in return.
Date: 05/14/2003
Trade: Chicago gets NYR's 25th, 27th, 30th and 37th picks
NYR gets dllas's 35th pick,
Chicago's 36th, 37th, 38th, 40th and dallas's 40th picks
Thoughts on the deal: This deal was made so i could acquire more mid to late 20th rounders. Many of my teams younger players were selected
with these picks.
Date: 05/17/2003
Trade: Chicago gets
Minnesota's 23rd fantasy, L.A's 21st, 24th, 25th and 26th round fantasy picks
L.A gets Chicago's 1st round entry pick and Dallas's 36th round fantasy
Thoughts on the deal: This deal
was made so i could pick more prospects for the future. I want to be able to compete not only in the present but also
in 5 years.
Date: 06/23/2003
Trade: Chicago gets Daniel Briere
and Jan Hrdina
Washington
gets Brendan Shanahan
Thoughts on the deal: With Shanahan
being one of my older players i felt i had to make a deal that would not only keep me in contention for the Cup but also make
me younger. I felt i accomplished it by acquiring Briere and Hrdina.
Date: 06/26/2003
Trade: Chicago gets Dale Purinton
NY
Rangers get Landon Wilson, 8th overall pick in round 31
Thoughts on the deal: This was
strictly a depth move. Purinton is an up and coming scrappy defenceman. His numbers have improved in each of the last
three seasons in the NHL.
Date: 06/29/2003
Trade: Chicago gets Miroslav
Satan and Igor Radulov
NY Rangers get Michael Nylander, Matt Murley, Chicago's 32nd round fantasy and Chicago's 35 round fantasy
Thoughts on the deal: I got a
little younger with Satan. I like his all around game. He will play on my 1st line. Radulov has a ton of potential. His defensive
game needs work but that will come with experience.
Date: 08/03/2003
Trade: Chicago gets: Adam Foote
Anaheim
gets: Brain Gionta and Danny Markov
Thoughts on the deal: I needed a number 2
defenseman to complement Chris Pronger as my number 1. Adam Foote is definitely that.
Date: Sep 9th, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets: Detroits
2004 5th round pick
Detroit
gets: Darren Haydar
Thoughts on the deal: This trade
was made so i could get under the roster limit of 40. Nothing more
Date: Sep 11th, 2003
Trade: Chicago
gets: Chris Phillips
Columbus
gets: Jan Hrdina
Thoughts on the deal: Hrdina
was a spare part on my team. I didn't like him as my 3rd line center so i dealt him to improv my team elsewhere. Chris Phillips
is a young, all around defenseman that will help my team for years.
Date: Sep 13th, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets:
Alexander Svitov and Stanislav Chistov
Calgary
gets: Slava Kozlov
Thoughts on the deal: This deal was
made for the future. I didn't like to have a player like Kozlov on my 2nd line. Chistov, an up and coming sniper will take
his spot there. Svitov fits the Bobby Holik mold.He will center my 3rd line.
Date: Sep 14th, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets: Tom Poti
Vancouver
gets: Joffrey Lupul , Konstantin Koltsov, Niklas Kronvall, Todd Simpson
Thoughts on the deal: I gave up some of my future to get this deal done. I really like Lupul and Simpson.
Kronvall is a little expendable cause i have so many elite prospects on D. I also made roster room to pick up a waiver
player. Poti will quaterback my powerplay with Chris Pronger. Being only 26 and collecting 48 points last year he has a long
future with the Hawks.
Date: Sep 21st, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets: Steve Sullivan
and Ahaheim's 2nd round pick in 2004
Anaheim
gets: Daniel Briere and Chris Phillips
Thoughts on the deal: This was
a ratings deal. Sullivan is 87, briere, 83 and phillips 80. This also opens up a roster spot for Joni Pitkanen when he gets
rated in NHL 2004.
Date: Sep 28th, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets: Landon
Wilson, Marcus Ragnarsson and Chris Chelios
New
York Rangers get: Alexei Ponikarovsky, Darren Haydar, Martin Lapointe
Thoughts on the deal: I traded
away 2 decent young players for two older defenseman. They help me win now. Landon Wilson will take Lapointes spot on
the 3rd line.
Date: Sep 30th, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets:
Eric Stall, Jay Bouwmeester and Pierre-Marc Bouchard
Calgary
gets: Adam Foote, Chicago's 1st round in 2004 and Andreas Holmqvist
Thoughts on the Deal: Trading
away Adam Foote was not an easy thing to do. Getting back the best young defenseman in the NHL made up for it. Eric Staal
has franchise center written all over him. PM Bouchard will be a great 2nd line center as early as next year.
Date: Oct 15th, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets: Brent Seabrook,
Colorado's 1st round entry pick in 2004 and Colorado's 3rd round entry pick in 2004
Colorado
gets: Chris Chelios
Thoughts on the deal: With Chelios
being an older player he didn't fit into my defensive plans very well. I had a few offers from other gms about him but in
the end Colorado made the best offer. Seabrook is atleast a year away from becoming and NHLer. Getting the 2 picks is just
another option come draft time.
Date: Oct 21st, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets: Ray Whitney
Boston
gets: Steve Konowalchuk and Alexander Svitov
Thoughts on the deal: I
hated to see Konowalchuk go because he is good at doing everything. I needed another top 6 forward since the trading of Kozlov.
Whitney who got 75 points last year replaces him.
Date: Oct 23rd, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets: Martin Lapointe,
Mike Grier, Rangers 2nd pick in 2004 and Rangers 1st pick in 2005
New
York Rangers get: Jason Bacashihua, Michal Barinka, Chicago's 3rd round pick in 2004, Chicago's 3rd round pick in 2005
Thoughts on the deal: I needed
a couple of checkers for my 3rd line. Lapointe and Grier will play there. Bacashihua is a very good goalie prospect but with
Tellqvist and Leighton playing the back up role this season Basc became expendable. It would be hard for Barinka to crack my
top 6 in 2 years so he was sent for picks.
Date: Nov 11th, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets: Michal Handzus,
Scott Hartnell, Willie Mitchell, Andrew Raycroft, Chicago's 1st pick in 2004 and Calgarys's 2nd pick in 2004
Calgary
gets: Miro Satan, Martin Lapointe, Landon Wilson, Mikael Tellqvist and Chicago's 4th rounder in 2004
Thoughts on the deal: Raycroft
had a strong start to the year. I thought he would be the best rookie goalie this year. He will eventually take
over for Belfour when he retires. Satan was dealt for depth. Handzus is a very good checking line center and Hartnell is an
emerging power forward. The picks are just more options come draft time.
Date: Nov 18th, 2003
Trade: Chicago gets:
Brendan Morrow, Ales Pisa and Dallas's 4th round pick in 2004
Dallas
gets: Mike Grier, Dale Purinton and Chicago's 2nd round pick in 2004
Thoughts on the deal: Brendan
Morrow is a very good young player. He has a 2nd line spot as long as he stays in Chicago. I wanted to get Jay Bouwmeester
into the line up and that meant Purinton had to go. Handzus replaces Grier on the checking line.
Date: Jan 14th, 2004
Trade: Chicago gets: Kevin Weekes and
Trevor Letowski
Pittsburg gets: Dmitri Yushkevich and David Hale
Thoughts on the deal: I didn't like
havin a 70 overall goalie as my back up. I was way over playing Belfour and it had cost me a lot of points. With Weekes, Belfour
can have more games off. Hale would never have played on my team. It's packed solid with great upcoming defenseman. Letowski
is solid 4th line help.
Date: Feb 10th, 2004
Trade: Chicago gets: Scott
Neidermayer
Ottawa
get: Anton Volchenkov, Chicago's 1st round pick in 2004 and Anaheim's 2nd round pick in 2004
Thoughts on the deal: I
wanted a real good number 2 defenceman behind Pronger. I had to give up a lot in Volchenkov but Neidermayer is worth it because
i'm trying to win now. He will play on the pp and the pk.
Date: Feb 11th, 2004
Trade: Chicago gets: Viktor Kozlov and
Dave Andreychuk
Detroit
gets: Kevin Weekes, Trevor Letowski, Dallas's 4th rounder in 04 and Chicago's 5th rounder in 04
Thoughts on the deal: I was in need
to a 2nd line Right wing and Kozlov seemed like a good fit. He didn't come overly expensive either. Weekes will get a ratings
boost next year but so will Raycroft. Dave Andreychuk will bring much needed experience to my 3rd and 4th lines.
Date: Mar 6th, 2004
Trade: Chicago gets:
Jonathan Girard
Minnesota gets: Ales Pisa
Thoughts on the deal: This was just
a minor move. Girard moves to play as my number 6. Pisa was a scratch so i traded a player i wasn't playing for a number 6
defenceman. If Girard can come back from his injury it will be a bonus.
Date: Mar 9th, 2004
Trade: Chicago gets: Bryan McCbe
New
York Islanders gets: Tom Poti
Thoughts on the deal: This way pretty
much an even deal ratings wise. Poti is better on the pp but McCabe is better on the pk. Neidermayer took
Poti's spot on the pp so Poti was expendable. Mccabe will help in an all around way for years to come.
Date: Mar 9th, 2004
Trade: Chicago gets: Mats Sundin and
Tim Taylor
New
York Islanders get: Stanislav Chistov and Jiri Hudler
Thoughts on the deal: This moves enables
me to move Tanguay to left wing on the second line and have Mats take his place.Sundin will greatly help my offence. There's
no doubt that Chistov and Hudler will be good point producers in a couple seasons but Sundin can help now.
All the above trades were made in year 1 of the league. On to
year 2.
Date: Jun 6th,
2004
Trade: Chicago gets: Zdeno Chara
New
York Islanders get: Scott Niedermayer
Thoughts on the deal: Zdeno Chara gives
me the Premier Stalwart Defensive Defenseman in the NHL. This will help my shots
against and will help Belfour's fatigue. I wanted to keep Niedermayer because of his offence. Chris Pronger and Bryan McCabe
are more than capable of picking up the slack.
Date: Jun 28th, 2004
Trade: Chicago gets: Keith Ballard
Minnestoa gets: Tim Taylor,
Chris Mason and Jonathan Girard
Thoughts on the deal: This deal was made to dump a bit of salary and help out the Minnie GM. Taylor, Mason and Girard would not have starter.
I shipped them to a team that could use them. Ballard is a good D prospect. He signed with Phoenix this season and will follow
in the footsteps of Leopold and Paul Martin as Golden Gopher grads.
Date: Jul
7th, 2004
Trade: Chicago
gets: Trevor Linden and a 5th round pick in 04
Montreal gets: Marcus Ragnarsson
Thoughts on the deal: I really needed a good checking right winger to play with Handzus and Ruutu on the 3rd line. Hartnell wasn't the man
for the job. Ragnarsson was expendable because of my depth on D. The pick will be used on someone i like in the middle
part of the draft.
Date: Jul 12th, 2004
Trade: Chicago
gets: Marek Malik
San
Jose gets: Ray Whitney
Thoughts on the deal: Getting Malik gives
me a big, strong stay at home defenseman. He'll play on the third pair with Bouwmeester and take a regular shift on the 2nd
penalty kill unit. Whitney was a little expendable. With the emergence of Morrow and Ruutu, Whitney was the odd man out.
Date: Aug
21st, 2004
Trade: Chicago
gets: Ilya Kovalchuk and Dustin Brown
Pittsburg
gets: Brenden Morrow, Paul Martin, Joni Pitkanen and Rangers 1st round pick in 05
Thoughts on the deal: Getting Kovalchuk gives
my team the one thing it didn't have, a go to goal scorer. Dustin Brown played NHL Hockey at 18. He's going to be a great
player who can put the puck in the net. To get them i didn't have to give up any main parts of my team. Pitkanen will be replaced
by Hamhuis in the line up. Tanguay will take Morrow's spot on the 2nd line. Martin would have had to get much better if he
wanted to crack my top 6 in a couple years. Rangers 1st was just a toss in to get a Superstar.
Date: Sep 12th, 2004
Trade: Chicago gets: Pavel Datsyuk,
Mike Rathje, Phili's 1st in 05
and Tampa's 2nd in 05
Philedelpiha gets: Michael
Handzus, Victor Kozlov, Willie Mitchell
and Chicago's 1st in 05
Thoughts on the deal: There won't a comment on this deal.
Date: Nov 22, 2004
Trade: Chicago gets: Ottawa's 2nd in 05
Ottawa gets: Barry Tallackson
and Chicago's 3rd in 06
Thoughts on the deal: This deal was made to get an extra pick in the 05 draft.
Date: Nov 22, 2004
Trade: Chicago gets Scott
Niedermayer and Eric Daze
Columbus gets Bryan McCabe and Marek
Malik
Thoughts on the deal: I needed to add more speed to my defence and Niedermayer brings
that. He will play on the power play and penalty kill. Eric Daze is a solid scorer that will play on the bottom two lines.
I have Pronger and Chara so defenseman like Bryan McCabe and Marek Malik are tradable.
Date: Jan 6, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets Patrick Elias and Scott Stevens
Pittsburgh gets Pavel Datsyuk,
Brett Mclean and Ottawa's 2nd rounder in 05
Thoughts on the deal: Elias and Kovalchuk will form the best 1, 2 left wing punch
in the league. Elias will put up a lot of points on the 2nd line. Datsyuk is a skilled player buy physical enough for my liking.
Date: Feb 22, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets Al Macinnis
New York Islanders get Igor Radulov and Dennis Wideman
Thoughts on the deal: Macinnis is an older player who will play on my top 4. He
will also see time on special teams.
Date: Mar 9, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets Mike Knuble,
Mike Egener, Anaheim's 3rd round pick in 05 and Boston's 1st round pick in 06
Boston gets Mike Rathje and Eric
Daze
Thoughts on the deal: I like Knuble better than Daze. I think he brings more to
the table and like him on the 3rd line where as Daze was playing on the 4th. Trading for Macinnis made Rathje expendable.
Date: Jun 19, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets Jeff Carter and Stefan Ruzicka
Florida gets Eric Staal
Thoughts on the deal: I like goal scoring centers
better than play making centers. Jeff Carter should score more goals than Staal and put up the same amount of points. Stefan
Ruzicka is a slick player who has a chance to play NHL Hockey.
Date: Jun 21, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets Andy Mcdonald
Dallas gets Michael Leighton
Thoughts on the deal: This way a minor deal to
get a good 4th liner. Mcdonald could center my 4th line. I like Leighton but with Toivonen my goaltending will be set for
a long time.
Date: Jun 21, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets Marcel
Goc, Montreals 1st round pick in 05 and Montreals 1st round pick in 06
Montreal gets Mats Sundin and Scott
Stevens
Thoughts on the deal: This was the teams first salary cap dump. With the salary
cap coming into place for next season this deal had to be made. For Sundin i got three potential players that can play on
my team. Goc could be a 4th liner after this season and i'll have to be smart with the picks.
Date: Jun 30, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets Buffalo's
2006 2nd round pick
Buffalo gets Dave Andreychuk and
Chicago's 2006 3rd round pick
Thoughts on the deal: Salary cap dump number two. This deal was made to dump a bit
of salary and pick up a good pick in the 06 draft.
Date: Jul 4, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets Dan Boyle, Mike Komisarek, Atlanta's 1st rounder in 05 and Atlanta's
3rd rounder in 05
Atlanta gets Scott Niedermayer and Keith Ballard
Thoughts on the deal: Salary cap dump number three. Boyle is a similar defenseman
to Niedermayer. He has some speed and can put up a few points. He will play on special teams as well. Komisarek will make
Montreals defence this year and has a shot at my 3rd pair for the 05-06 season.
Date: Jul 5, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets: Marian
Gaborik, Colorado's 2nd round pick in 05, Colorado's 2nd round pick in 06, Colorado's 3rd round pick in 05 and Colorado's
3rd round pick in 06
Colorado gets Patrick Elias and Al Macinnis
Thoughts on the deal: Salary cap dump number four. Gaborik is a rising young star
who has a lot of allstar games ahead of him. He will play on my top 6 for plenty of years. He's a franchise player.
Dealing Elias hurts but this was the last deal in a series of trades to free up cap space. It was worth it.
Date: Jul 11, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets 18th overall
pick in the 2005 draft
New York Rangers get 21st and 57th
overall picks in the 2005 draft
Thoughts on the deal: This deal was made to select Nicklas Bergfors in the draft.
He would not have been there at 21 and he was the player i wanted with that pick.
Date: Jul 18, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets Anton Volchenkov
Ottawa gets Mike Egener and Buffalo's
2nd round pick in 06
Thoughts on the deal: An original fantasy draftie comes back home. I really like
Volchenkovs game. He will play on my top 4 one day and possibly even the first pair.
Date: Jul 27, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets 59th overall
in 05
Pittsburgh gets 66 overall in 05
and Colorado's 3rd in 06
Thoughts on the deal: This minor deal was made to select Tomas Pospisil who i really
wanted.
Date: Aug 14, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets: Jan Hrdina,
Anaheims 3rd round pick in 06 and LA's 4th round pick in 05
Anaheim gets: Andy Mcdonald
and Chicago's 2nd round pick in 06
Thoughts on the deal: I wanted a more offensive 3rd line center. Hrdina brings
more speed and skill to the lineup.
Date: Aug 15, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets: Gary Roberts
San Jose gets: Trevor Linden
Thoughts on the deal: Roberts brings some scoring ability left behind by Elias.
He will also play physical which fits into the teams style of play.
Date: Aug 22, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets: Minnesota's 4th round
pick in 05
New York Rangers get: La's
4th round pick in 05 and Chicago's 4th round pick in 05
Thoughts on the deal: This deal was made to select the player i wanted, Kris Russell.
Date: Aug 31, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets: Sergei Zubov
Pittsburgh gets: Montreals 1st round pick in 06
Thoughts on the deal: Zubov will round out my top 4. He will play on the power play
and penalty kill.
Date: Aug 31, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets: Valeri Bure
Pittsburgh gets: Mike Knuble
Thoughts on the deal: This deal was made to get the first rounder
back that i gave up to get Zubov.
Date: Aug 31, 2005
Trade: Chicago gets: LA's 1st round pick in 06
LA
gets: Valeri Bure
Thoughts on the deal: Acquired the 06 1st i traded for Zubov.
